Nice Boys Don’t Kiss Like That…

SQUEEEEEEEEEE!

Yes, this is the process I go through each and every time I watch the final scene from Bridget Jones’s Diary. One of the all time most romantic scenes in movie history, in my humble opinion!

I saw it for the first time as I was crossing the Atlantic ocean on my way to spend New Year with my then-boyfriend and now husband. I remember my heart leaping into my throat as I thought about kissing my British love in the London winter.

Of course, I thought there’d be snow, but sadly that’s only in the movies. ;)

Anyway, I’ve seen it 100 times since, and I still get that same excited feeling each and every time. I caught the second half of the movie on TV tonight, and I still can’t help wanting to RIP Colin Firth’s clothes off every time I see it. Good god, my palms are sweaty just thinking of it!

I couldn’t find just the end scene on Youtube, but I did find one video which I’m embedding below. The first 25 seconds are from a separate scene (though just as squee-worthy!), and then it goes into the final minutes of the film.

If you are female and don’t curl your toes in utter devotion when you watch this, I can only assume you’re gay or frigid. ;)

Enjoy!

This video is so close to life that it feels like someone took a video of my cat and put it online. Where would I be without my annoying little kitty??

Speed Painting - Mermaid’s Lament

Posted by vyktoriah on August 11th, 2008

I’ve been working on a painting for a few days, and I decided to video the process. So far I’ve put in about 9 hours which I have condensed into a 5 minute video.

There’s still a ton left, but I haven’t done it yet. :) The results are below!

An Apt Description

Over on LiveJournal, I’ve noticed a trend lately of people blogging about “my song.” That is to say, each individual is blogging about the particular song that perfectly describes them or else bears an uncanny resemblance to their life. Some of them are funny, some are sad, and some are rare gems that hardly anyone has ever heard of.

As for me, I’ve racked my brains, and I do believe that there is a song which perfectly illustrates the way I truly know myself to be. When I take a hard look at myself, I realise that I live as The Queen. And the thought cuts me to the core.

Youtube won’t allow embedding of this particular video, but you can see it here.

The lyrics are as follows.

“The Queen & The Soldier”

The soldier came knocking upon the queen’s door
He said, “I am not fighting for you any more”
The queen knew she’d seen his face someplace before
And slowly she let him inside.

He said, “I’ve watched your palace up here on the hill
And I’ve wondered who’s the woman for whom we all kill
But I am leaving tomorrow and you can do what you will
Only first I am asking you why.”

Down in the long narrow hall he was led
Into her rooms with her tapestries red
And she never once took the crown from her head
She asked him there to sit down.

He said, “I see you now, and you are so very young
But I’ve seen more battles lost than I have battles won
And I’ve got this intuition, says it’s all for your fun
And now will you tell me why?”

The young queen, she fixed him with an arrogant eye
She said, “You won’t understand, and you may as well not try”
But her face was a child’s, and he thought she would cry
But she closed herself up like a fan.

And she said, “I’ve swallowed a secret burning thread
It cuts me inside, and often I’ve bled”
He laid his hand then on top of her head
And he bowed her down to the ground.

“Tell me how hungry are you? How weak you must feel
As you are living here alone, and you are never revealed
But I won’t march again on your battlefield”
And he took her to the window to see.

And the sun, it was gold, though the sky, it was gray
And she wanted more than she ever could say
But she knew how it frightened her, and she turned away
And would not look at his face again.

And he said, “I want to live as an honest man
To get all I deserve and to give all I can
And to love a young woman who I don’t understand
Your highness, your ways are very strange.”

But the crown, it had fallen, and she thought she would break
And she stood there, ashamed of the way her heart ached
She took him to the doorstep and she asked him to wait
She would only be a moment inside.

Out in the distance her order was heard
And the soldier was killed, still waiting for her word
And while the queen went on strangeling in the solitude she preferred
The battle continued on
